Kid rescued hours after abduction, driver held
A five-year-old boy, abducted allegedly by their driver from Golapganj upazila of Sylhet on Friday morning, was rescued in Sherpur area under Moulvibazar Sadar upazila in the evening.
Police said Rony Shikdar, son of Afil Uddin of Faridpur district, picked up Sakib, son of Imran Ahmed of Kayastha village in Golapganj upazila of Sylhet, on Friday morning and was heading towards the capital in a bid to handing over Sakib to a kidnappers' gang, in exchange for money.
When driver Rony took a break in Sherpur area for fuel, the boy started crying. Locals felt something wrong and challenged Rony.
They beat up Rony and later handed him over to the police, AKM Fazlul Haque Shiblee, officer-in-charge of Golapganj Police Station, said.
During primary interrogation, Rony told police that he had a deal with a gang of kidnappers in the capital to take the boy to them in exchange for money, the OC added.
