Land disputes leave one dead, 5 injured
A man, who was injured during a clash over land dispute at Gobardari village in Satkhira Sadar upazila on Friday, died at Khulna Medical College Hospital (KMCH) yesterday.
The deceased, Mujibur Rahman, 50, son of Afsar Uddin, was a resident of the village.
Quoting local people police said there had been a longstanding feud between Mujibur and one Tabibur Rahman of the village over the ownership of eight decimals of land.
On Friday morning, a group of 7/8 people, led by Tabibur went to the land to plant paddy saplings. As Mujibur and his family members tried to prevent them, Tabibur's men swooped on them, triggering a clash among the two sides, leaving 13 people, including Mujibur, injured.
Injured Mujibur was first taken to Satkhira Sadar Hospital and then shifted to KMCH as his condition deteriorated.
He died at the hospital around 7:30am yesterday, the OC added.
Away in Bogra, at least five leaders and activists of the ruling Awami League were injured in a clash over a land disputed at Jorshimul village in Dhunat upazila of the district yesterday, reports our correspondent.
Critically injured Kamruzzaman Kajol, secretary of Chikasi union unit of AL, Rafiqul Islam, president of Ward No 3 unit, and AL activists Abdul Khaleque, Anwarul Islam, and Lutfar Rahman are now undergoing treatment at Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital.
Police said there had been a conflict between Kajol and two siblings--Abdul Majid and Abdul Majed--of Chhoto Chopra village over taking control of 23 decimals of land.
Kajol and the four other came under attack by their rivals when they went to the disputed land around 11:00am yesterday.
After giving primary treatment at Dhunat Upazila Health Complex the five were shifted to SZMCH in the afternoon, Officer-in-Charge Mizanur Rahman of Dhuant Police Station said.
