Lightning kills schoolgirl

A schoolgirl was killed by lightning at Jamdia village in Bagharpara upazila of Jessore district on Tuesday night. The dead is Suraiya Khatun, 9, daughter of Mostain Hossain, and a student of Class III of Samdia Government Primary School in the area. Family sources said a thunderbolt hit the girl and her grandmother while they were sitting in the veranda of their house. Suraiya died on the spot.
