Man held with 12 gold bars

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a man along with 12 gold bars, weighing around one kilogram, from Bhomra area in Satkhira Sadar upazila yesterday.

The arrestee is Joydeb Ghosh, 55, son of Nilratan Ghosh of Bhomra village in the upazila.

A team of the border guards, acting on a tip-off, arrested Joydeb while he was entering India through Bhomra border around 9:30am, said Golam Sarwar, Bhomra company commander of BGB 38 Battalion.

They later searched his body and recovered 12 gold bars from his possession, the BGB commander said.

BGB men filed a case and handed the smuggler over to Satkhira Sadar Police Station.
