Man killed by extortionists

Alleged extortionists killed a man at Underchar village in Noakhali Sadar upazila yesterday morning.

The deceased was Ismail Hossain 45, son of late Abdul Mannan of the village.

Ismail went to visit his land 200 yards from his house at 7:00am when four or five miscreants started hacking him and fired him on the chest, said Anwar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Sudharam Model Police Station, quoting the victim's relatives and locals.

Hearing his cry, locals came to the spot and took him to Noakhali General Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

On information, police went there and sent the body to morgue for autopsy.

The victim's wife Shefali Begum told local union parishad Chairman Abu Bakar Siddique that Abdul Matin, a 'local miscreant', had been demanding Tk 30 thousand as toll from her husband for the last three days.
