Man killed over land dispute

A farmer was killed and 14 others were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers over land dispute at Jhirakhali village in Dhubaura upazila of the district yesterday morning.

The victim was identified as Yasin Ali, 30, son of late Abdul Ali of the village.

Quoting locals, police said there had been a longstanding dispute between Yasin and Md Rokonuzzaman of neighbouring Batihala village over the ownership of nine acres of land.

As Rokonuzzaman and his men went to the disputed land around 11:30am, Yasin and his supporters swooped on their rivals, leaving at least 15 people from both sides injured.

The injured were admitted to Dhubaura Upazila Health Complex and later shifted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) as their condition deteriorated. Yeasin died on way to MMCH, police said.
