Many of those disappeared already returned: Minister

UNB, Dhaka

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan today claimed that many youths who disappeared have already returned to their families due to law enforcement agencies' sincere efforts.

"Many students have already come back while our law enforcement agencies have found out many youths. Their efforts are on to rescue the other missing youths. So there's no word 'missing'," he said.

The minister was talking to reporters after inaugurating the Fire Service Week 2016 at its Mirpur training complex about the recently reported missing of several students.

When his attention was drawn to some recent incidents, including shooting on a Dhaka University BCL leader early Sunday, and asked whether he thinks the use of illegal firearms has seen a rise, Asaduzzaman described those as stray incidents.

"Our police are very active. Peace prevails in the country following successes of the security forces," he said.

Jubayer Ahmed, vice-president of DU unit of BCL, suffered bullet wounds as a group of miscreants shot him in front of Banbeis office at Sonargaon Road in the city in the early hours.

The minister also said action will be taken against those involved in the shooting.
