Mob beats up 6 'cow lifters' in Chuadanga

A mob beat up six suspected cow lifters , leaving them severely injured at Jamjami village in Alamdanga upazila of Chuadanga district early yesterday.

The six are Saheb Ali, 45, Abul Kalam, 45 Intazul, 30, Gaffar Hossain, 30, Faksar Mondol, 50 of Dhupatila; and Shamim Ahmed, 25, of Pouro area of Chuadanga town.

Atiar Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Alamdanga Police Station, said around 100 villagers encircled the six at Jamjami field beside Kushtia-Chuadanga highway after hearing that they had stolen two cows from the houses of Rezaul Islam and Amzad Hossain of Bhedua village in the upazila, and loaded the cows onto a truck bound for Dhaka at around 4:30am. 

 The angry villagers beat them up mercilessly.

Being informed, police from Alamdanga Police Station rushed to the spot and rescued them. They were later admitted to Alamdanga Upazila Health Complex.

However, local sources said they were cattle traders not thieves. They collected cattle from different houses and bazars and sent them to Dhaka.
