One dies of 'heart attack', 4 shot in Cox's Bazar
A man reportedly died of a heart attack and four others received bullet wounds during a gunfight between two rival groups over taking control of a shrimp enclosure in Bahaltali area in Khutakhali union under Chakaria upazila of the district early yesterday.
The deceased is Mozaffar Ahmed, 50, son of Kabir Ahmed. He fell sick during the clash and was rushed to Malughat Memorial Christian Hospital where he died later.
Probash Chandra Dhar, officer-in-charge (OC) of Chakaria Police Station, said the two groups traded fire at the shrimp enclosure at around 3:00am, leaving four guards of the enclosure bullet-hit.
The lease period of the enclosure has expired and the two groups engaged in the clash for taking control of the enclosure, the OC added.
The injured -- Moktar Hossain, Shamsul Alam, Abdur Rahim and Sayed Alam -- were admitted to Chakaria Upazila Health Complex.
Rezaul Karim, former lessee of the enclosure, said the shootout took place when a gang of 20 to 22 robbers swooped on the enclosure to loot it. They took away around three maunds of shrimp, Rezaul added.
