One jailed, six arrested for stalking schoolgirls

A mobile court on Tuesday sentenced a college student to one year's imprisonment for stalking a schoolgirl in Panchpir area under Kahaloo upazila of the district.

The convict is Mehedi Hasan, 19, a second-year honours student of Government Azizul Haque College, and son of Tochir Uddin of Panchpir area.

Police said Mehedi had been stalking the Class VI student of nearby Panchpir Girls' School for long. Locals caught him while he was stalking the girl on her way to the school in the morning and informed the police.

Police went to the spot and arrested the boy. He was later produced in a mobile court led by Assistant Commissioner (land) of Kahaloo upazila Md Moniruzzaman, also an executive magistrate. After a hearing, the magistrate gave the verdict.

Contacted, Sumit Kumar Kundu, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kahaloo Police Station, said the college boy was sent to jail in the afternoon.

Our Moulvibazar correspondent reported that six youths were arrested on charge of stalking schoolgirls in Habiganj Sadar upazila around 5:00pm on Sunday.

The arrestees are Jahangir, 21, son of Abdul Goni of Richi village, Rabbi, 26, son of Faruq Miah of Anantapur village, Naim, 23, son of Sirajul Islam of Umednagar village, Rukon Miah, 22, son of Wasim Miah, Numan, 26, son of Abdul Gofur of Jalalabad village, and Kishor, 27, of Mahmudpur village in the upazila.

Officer-in-charge Nazim Uddin of Habiganj Police Station said the youths used to tease the schoolgirls on their way to and from school every day.

As the girls yesterday filed a written complaint to the upazila nirbahi officer (UNO), police went into action and arrested the stalkers from the entrance to BKGC government High School in Habiganj town area.
