One killed over land dispute

A man was killed in a clash over land dispute at Chowka village under Pagla Police Station in Gafargaon upazila of the district yesterday.

The victim was identified as Elim Uddin, 70, son of late Abdul Halim of the village.

There had been a longstanding dispute over a piece of land between Elim Uddin and his cousins.

Elim and his cousins engaged in an altercation over the issue at around 11:00am, police said.

At one stage, his cousins' men beat up Elim in front of his house, injuring him critically, said Md Chand Miah, officer-in-charge of Pagla  Police Station.

Elim was rushed to Gafargaon Upazila Health Complex where he succumbed to his injuries soon after admission, the OC added.

On information, police rushed to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

None was arrested in connection with the incident as of filing of this report at 5:00pm.
