Tk 26 lakh looted from BD Foods staff

Armed criminals yesterday intercepted a microbus of BD Foods Limited at Bahadurpur under Gazipur City Corporation and took away over Tk 26 lakh from four employees of the company.

The gang also beat up the employees, leaving them injured. They are cashier Belal Hossain, 30, security guards Abul Kalam, 35, and Mohammad Shahadat, 32, and microbus driver Liton, 45.

Abdul Zaher, assistant manager of BD Foods Limited, said cashier Belal Hossain withdrew the money from Gazipur Chandona Chowrasta branch of Islamic Bank Limited at noon.

A gang of five riding two motorbikes intercepted the microbus in Bahadurpur area while the four were returning to the factory in Gazipur. They attacked the employees with pistol, rod, and knife and snatched a bag containing the money.

Hearing screams of the staff, locals rushed to the spot and took the injured to Gazipur Shahid Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital.

Khandaker Rezaul Hassan Reza, officer-in-charge of Joydebpur Police Station, said law enforcers are raiding different areas to arrest the criminals. A case was filed with the police station concerned.
