Truck, stone quarry workers on strike in Jaflong

Truck and stone quarry owners and workers went on an indefinite strike in Jaflong under Goainghat upazila of Sylhet district on Saturday, demanding reconstruction of the Sylhet-Jaflong highway.

The decision to enforce the strike came from a meeting held at Jaflong on Thursday. Leaders local truck owners and workers unions and stone quarry owners and workers were present in the meeting.

Shovel workers in different areas of Goainghat abstained from loading and unloading trucks from 6:00am on Saturday.

The union leaders said they repeatedly urged the authorities concerned to renovate the road, but to no effect.

"We will continue the strike until our demand is met," said the union leaders.
