Two housewives killed for dowry
Two housewives were killed allegedly by their husbands for dowry in Panchagarh and Lalmonirhat districts yesterday and the day before.
A woman was tortured to death allegedly by her husband for dowry at Kaliaganj village in Boda upazila of Panchagarh yesterday, reports our Thakurgaon correspondent.
The victim is Mukta, 25, wife of Mokhlesur Rahman of the village, and daughter of Hossain Ali of Boda municipality area.
Family sources said Mokhlesur and his family members often tortured Mukta for dowry since their marriage seven years ago.
On Monday night, Mokhlesur made a phone call to the victim's father Hossain Ali and said his daughter took poison.
Hearing the incident, Hossain asked Mokhlesur to take her to hospital but the latter delayed.
In the morning, she was rushed to the hospital where the on-duty doctor declared her dead.
Officer-in-Charge of Boda Police Station Abul Kalam Azad said they detained Mokhlesur for interrogation.
In Lalmonirhat, a housewife was killed allegedly by her husband for dowry at Gobdha village in Aditmari upazila of the district on Monday.
The dead is Mousumi Begum, 21, daughter of Maqbul Hossain of Durgapur village in the upazila, reports our correspondent.
After three years of their marriage, Nurunnabi and his family members often tortured Mousumi for dowry.
On Monday night, Nurunnabi strangled his wife following an altercation over the issue, said police.
