Two teachers held for torturing madrasa boy

A madrasa student was tortured allegedly by three teachers on theft charge in Bagharpara upazila of Jessore district on Sunday night.

The victim is Abdul Kader, 14, son of Shahidul Islam of Dadupur village in the upazila, and a student of Darul Ulum Sautul Madrasa (Qawmi) in Khajura Bazar area.

The victim's mother filed a case with Bagharpara Police Station against the madrasa superintendent and two other teachers in this connection.

Soyoruddin Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Bagharpara Police Station, said they arrested two of the accused teachers -- Abdul Gaffar and Asaduzzaman -- after the case was filed.

Madrasa superintendent Salauddin Ahmed accused Kader of stealing a bicycle from the madrasa, sources said.

Salauddin, Abdul Gaffar and Asaduzzaman locked the boy in a room of the madrasa and tortured him on Sunday afternoon, they added.

Abdul Kader was later sent to Bagharpara Upazila Health Complex.
