Iconic publisher Sheba Prokashoni suspends operations
Sheba Prokashoni has temporarily suspended all activities following allegations of internal irregularities and corruption, the organisation announced today.
In a notice signed by partner Kazi Shahnur Hossain, the publishing house said management had recently identified various irregularities and instances of misconduct within the organisation.
To ensure a fair, impartial and transparent investigation, and to complete necessary audit procedures, the organisation decided to suspend all operations temporarily, the notice said.
Founded in Dhaka in May 1963 by writer and publisher Kazi Anwar Hossain, Sheba Prokashoni remains one of Bangladesh’s most influential publishing institutions.
The publishing house played a significant role in popularising Bengali paperback culture by making books affordable and accessible to a mass readership.
Sheba Prokashoni became widely known for publishing adventure stories, thrillers, detective fiction and translated popular literature.
