Bangladesh Film Certification Board reconstituted with 15-member committee

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has reconstituted the Bangladesh Film Certification Board, forming a new 15-member committee to oversee the country’s film certification process.

The reconstitution was announced in a gazette notification signed by Mohammad Aslam Molla, Deputy Secretary of the ministry, on July 29.

Among the newly appointed members are Abdur Rahman, former president of the Bangladesh Cholochitra Sangbadik Samity (BACHSAS) and a film researcher; actor Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed; lyricist Prince Mahmud; and singer Dithi Anwar.

According to the notification, the board has been constituted under the provisions of the Bangladesh Film Certification Act. The Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting will serve as chairperson, while the Vice Chairman of the Bangladesh Film Certification Board will act as the member secretary.

Other members include the Additional Secretary (Film) of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting; a representative from the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division; a representative from the Press Wing of the Chief Adviser’s Office; a representative from the Ministry of Home Affairs; the Managing Director of the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC); Awlad Hossain, president of the Bangladesh Film Exhibitors’ Association; Shaheen Sumon, president of the Bangladesh Film Directors’ Association; and Shiba Shanu, president of the Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association.

The notification states that the board has been reconstituted to make the country’s film certification process more effective and better coordinated.
