Shawki’s ‘Gulmohor’ wins big at Meril-Prothom Alo Awards

Filmmaker Syed Ahmed Shawki has won the Best Director award at the Meril-Prothom Alo Awards 2025 for his web series “Gulmohor”, which also secured Best Web Series in the Critics’ Choice category.

Released in May last year on Chorki, “Gulmohor” stood out for its layered storytelling, weaving together family drama, suspense, and the emotional complexities of relationships set against a suburban backdrop. The series struck a chord with audiences and critics alike for its nuanced portrayal of familial bonds.

The ensemble cast featured performances by Mostafizur Noor Imran, Sara Zaker, Sarika Sabah, Saswata Chatterjee, Mir Naufel Ashrafi Jisan, and Mostafa Monwar, among others.

The Critics’ Choice awards were determined by a jury panel comprising Afzal Hossain, Mohammad Nuruzzaman, Azmeri Haque Badhan, Anam Biswas, and Tanim Noor.
