Rangamancha opens in Dallas with two major stage projects
A new Bangla theatre collective, Rangamancha, has formally launched in Dallas, marking a new addition to the Bangladeshi cultural scene in the United States. The group began its journey with plans for two-stage productions based on the works of leading figures of Bangladeshi theatre and literature.
The organisation officially began its journey on November 1, 2025, at an inauguration ceremony held at the Quality Suites Edison of Dallas hotel. The event was attended by artists, cultural organisers and members of the Bangladeshi diaspora.
The chief guest was Ekushey Padak-winning theatre veteran Mamunur Rashid, a pioneer of Bangladesh’s post-independence theatre movement. He formally announced the name of the group and unveiled its logo, marking Rangamancha’s entry into the cultural landscape of Dallas.
From the outset, Rangamancha has taken on two parallel creative projects. One is a stage adaptation based on stories from Humayun Ahmed’s “Misir Ali” series, a psychological thriller that remains one of the most influential works in Bangla popular literature. Rehearsals for the production are already underway.
At the same time, the group has begun manuscript readings of a play by Mamunur Rashid, reconnecting Dallas-based performers with the intellectual and political roots of Bangladesh’s theatre movement.
By bringing together the works of Humayun Ahmed and Mamunur Rashid—two giants who shaped Bangla storytelling in profoundly different ways—Rangamancha has assembled a committed group of Dallas-based theatre practitioners determined to translate legacy into live performance. The initiative positions itself not merely as a diaspora venture, but as a serious artistic endeavour grounded in discipline, collaboration and collective imagination.
The newly formed executive committee of Rangamancha for 2026–2027 includes Farhad Hossain as president, Tarek Chowdhury as vice-president, Manjur Chowdhury as executive secretary, Shaheen Sadat as joint secretary, Foyzul Bari Opu as organising secretary, Nusrat Khandaker Tinni as treasurer, and Sohana Mansur as media and publicity secretary.
Executive members are Abdul Malek, Morshed Chowdhury, Saiful Haq Rumi, Maruna Rahi, Manjur Rahim, Tariq Yasin Ujjal, and Taskir Ali Khan.
The advisory board includes leading theatre figures Shahiduzzaman Selim, Shamsul Alam Bokul, Iqbal Anwar, Zahid Reza, and Hridi Haq.
