Dhaka: Nice and Empty

Dhaka: Nice and Empty

Dhaka is actually reasonably-endowed with nice places and charming views, but usually this view will be blocked by someone's armpit. For one magical almost-week the masses will vacate the city and you can go about and actually look at stuff. Our cover story lists a fair few places you can go during the Eid break. They sound nice. I might check them out myself.
Independent studies that I did not just completely make up show that roughly 23.6 percent of our readers are about to enter that special age where they will start having to give out salami. Our writer, a former Eid predator and now prey, offers tips and tricks to avoid and placate the little devils while maintaining your wallet's integrity.
The 19th was the second death anniversary of our greatest contemporary novelist, and the loss is still felt by his fans (i.e. pretty much everyone.) There are still many who, for a variety of reasons, never got around to reading him. Our writer presents his list of stories that any Humayun Ahmed newcomer has to try.
And last, but in no way the least, Gaza. It's terribly easy to see images of dead children and armed Israelis and see this as a game of two forces: oppressor and oppressed. If it were that easy, international crises would be child's play to solve. Our writer reminds us that Hamas is a force playing its own game, and that its best strategies might not be compatible with the Gazans' interests.
