A workshop on Model United Nations took place on January 23, 2015 at the Chittagong Independent University auditorium, organised by Drishty Chittagong. A lot of interest was seen among the students regarding this workshop. UN recognised trainers, SIM Sadman Sheikh and Fahmida Faiza, conducted the workshop on the widely practiced rules and regulations of model UN conferences, delegations, diplomatic relations and activity.
Waseka Ayesha Khan, MP, was the chief guest at the award giving ceremony following the workshop. “We cannot survive alone. Everyone needs a platform and UN is such a platform for the entire world. How to represent a country at UN and how to maintain diplomatic relations – these are taught by model UN conferences and are worthy of appreciation.
The special guest of the event, Wahid Malek, managing editor of the Dainik Azadi, said, “We need to create diplomats to represent Bangladesh in the future world forums. Chittagong really needed this event to be on par with the current times.” Educationist Safia Ghazi Rahman praised the students and called them the “future global leaders.” She called out for the students to be prepared to make Bangladesh a more determined and prosperous nation.
Former General Secretary of Drishty Chittagong and lecturer at Chittagong University, Adnan Mannan, said, “Model UN is a land of fulfilling dreams, one where the conversations cannot be compared with either prose or poetry. The experience of delegating teaches a person of its certain kind of speaking and etiquettes.” The workshop was organised in association with the Rotary Club of Chittagong City; Zahid Hossain Chowdhury, President of the organisation also spoke at the event. The programme was presided over by Masud Bakul, President, Drishty Chittagong. General Secretary Banakusum Barua; Joint Secretaries Shahidul Islam and Saber Shah; Debate editor Tafhim Himel; and Joint Coordinator Kazi Arfat also attended the event. The event commenced with a speech by Zunayed Kaushik Chowdhury, coordinator of the Drishty Chittagong Model UN. Apart from Bangladesh, 257 students of 40 institutions from 10 countries participated in the workshop.
Lighthouse Imperium was the strategic partner of the event. The media partners were Dainik Azadi, Jamuna Television and SHOUT.
