Gazi Mazharul Anwar receives guard of honour at Central Shaheed Minar

In the wake of Gazi Mazharul Anwar's death, people from all walks of life paid homage to the legendary lyricist, film director and producer, when his body was brought to the Central Shaheed Minar in the country's capital on Monday. The music maestro was also given a guard of honour.

Gazi Mazharul Anwar's body was taken to the Shaheed Minar at 11 am on Monday. Afterwards, his body was taken to the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) at 12:30 pm. Here, the first namaz-e-janaza for the legendary lyricist will take place.

Following this, the second namaz-e-janaza will be held at Channel i's headquarters.

Finally, after the third namaz-e-janaza in the Azad Mosque in Gulshan, he will be buried in the grave of his mother at Banani graveyard.

Gazi Mazharul Anwar died on Sunday at the age of 79.  He has written more than 20,000 songs over the last 60 years.

Anwar received the Ekushey Padak in 2002 for his outstanding contributions to the field of music. He also received the National Film Award five times in his lifetime.

His list of timeless songs includes "Joy Bangla, Banglar Joy", "Achen Amar Moktar", "Ektara Tui Desh Kotha Bol Re Abar Bol", "Ganer Khatay Swaralipi Likhe", "Shudhu Gaan Geye Porichoy", "Ei Mon Tomake Dilam", "Chokher Nojore Emoni Dilam", among countless others.

Gazi Mazharul Anwar was born in 1943 at Taleshwar village in Daudkandi upazila of Comilla.  He started writing for Radio Pakistan from 1964.
