Zakiya Sultana Kornia has devoted over a decade and a half to music, steadily building her place as a familiar and much-loved voice. She first stepped into the spotlight through a reality show, and since then, her journey has been marked by constant work and growing popularity. With numerous stage performances both at home and abroad, she remains one of the busiest artists around—especially during Eid.

“Things have been incredibly hectic leading up to Eid,” Kornia says. “But I’m really enjoying the rush. I’ve been shooting for several television channels, and there’s still more to go.”

Her schedule is as varied as it is demanding. “For some channels, I’m recording music performances; for others, it’s Eid chat shows, and in some cases, I’m appearing as a guest on cooking programmes. I’m enjoying all of it. This kind of festive busyness is something I always look forward to.”

For Kornia, Eid is undeniably a time of celebration. “Of course it is—it’s one of our biggest festivals. Our workload increases during this time, but there’s also a special excitement. Those who listen to my music are always waiting for something new.”

Speaking about upcoming performances, she shares that stage shows will resume soon after Eid. “I have a show outside Dhaka lined up, and I’m currently preparing for it.”

She lights up when talking about live performances. “Stage shows mean thousands of people coming together. I love the energy—you can feel the audience’s excitement, perform live, and get instant reactions. It’s a wonderful experience.”

This Eid, however, Kornia plans to stay in Dhaka and spend time with her family. “I’ll celebrate with my loved ones—visiting my mother’s home and my grandmother’s house. It will be all about being together.”

Reflecting on past celebrations, she grows nostalgic. “Eids from my childhood were filled with a different kind of joy—something I don’t think can be recreated. Our home in Jhenaidah was full of life. My father, grandparents, and extended family were all there. We were nearly 50 cousins together, with huge pots of food being cooked. Those memories are truly special.”

On the music front, Kornia hints at something exciting ahead. “Work is underway, and I’m hoping to bring something big this year. I try to release one major project annually, something that really connects with listeners. I hope to do the same this year.”

She ends with a heartfelt message for her audience: “Keep listening to Bangla music and continue supporting it.”
