Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s family issues statement on ‘heart attack’ rumours

Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali marked his 63rd birthday on Tuesday, February 24, while remaining occupied with production work on his forthcoming film "Love and War", which stars Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal. Following rumours suggesting that Bhansali had suffered a heart attack and was hospitalised, his family issued an official statement to dismiss the speculation and set the record straight.
According to a statement issued by his family, Sanjay Leela Bhansali is in good health and doing perfectly well. The statement clarified that he only underwent a routine medical examination and there is nothing to worry about.
The note also conveyed heartfelt gratitude, saying that the family deeply values the affection, concern, and kindness shown by everyone, and thanked fans for their ongoing support and good wishes. The statement was shared through Instagram Stories on the Bhansali Productions account. Sanjay Leela Bhansali is a multifaceted filmmaker whose work spans directing, producing, screenwriting, editing, and music composition. Over the years, he has been honoured with numerous accolades, including seven National Film Awards, and received the Padma Shri in 2015. He stepped into direction with his debut film “Khamoshi: The Musical” in 1996.


He rose to critical acclaim and commercial success with “Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam” in 1999, followed by “Devdas” in 2002. In 2005, he won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi for “Black”. His later projects include “Saawariya” (2007) and “Guzaarish” (2010), the latter marking his first outing as a music composer.
Following this phase, he directed “Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela” in 2013, “Bajirao Mastani” in 2015, “Padmaavat” in 2018, and “Gangubai Kathiawadi” in 2022. In 2024, Bhansali launched his own music label, Bhansali Music. The same year also marked his entry into the OTT space, as he made his web-series directorial debut with “Heeramandi”.
