A cyclonic circulation has formed and lay over southeast Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood, the Indian Met Department announced today.

Under its influence, a low pressure is likely to form over the same region by May 8 morning and it is likely to concentrate into a depression over southeast Bay of Bengal around May 9, the IMD said in its latest update on the impending Cyclone Mocha.

Thereafter, it is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm while moving nearly northward towards central Bay of Bengal.

According to the IMD, the details of the intensification and the path of the cyclone will be provided after the formation of the low pressure area.

The system is under constant watch and being monitored regularly, it said.

The IMD said there is a "large variation" among cyclone forecasting models with the landfall point varying from south east to north east Myanmar between May 13 and 14.
