Bandarban records 11.9°C as dense fog blocks sunlight for days
Bandarban recorded a minimum temperature of 11.9 degrees Celsius today, based on a 12-hour weather observation, as dense fog continued to blanket the hill district and block sunlight throughout the day.
According to the district meteorological office, the sun has remained obscured for the past three to four days due to persistent fog, with visibility also significantly reduced. Fog tends to be heavier in Bandarban during winter compared to other seasons, officials said.
Locals said the prolonged fog and cold are affecting daily life as well as tourism activities in the district.
Sanatan Kumar Mondal, officer-in-charge of the Bandarban Meteorological Office, said dense fog across the area is preventing sunlight from reaching the hills, making the cold feel more intense.
The meteorological office said the prevailing weather conditions are likely to remain largely unchanged until January 7, after which the situation is expected to gradually return to normal.
Meanwhile, vehicles travelling during early morning hours were seen moving cautiously due to poor visibility.
Doctors have warned of increased health risks for children and the elderly, advising people to avoid going outdoors during early mornings and late nights unless necessary and to use adequate warm clothing.
