‘Robber’ killed in ‘gunfight’ with cops

A suspected robber was killed in a “gunfight” with police at Nateswar in Sonaimuri upazila of Noakhali early yesterday.

The dead is Mokhlesur Rahman alias Dacoit Subal, 38, of Durgapur village in Begumganj upazila of the district, said police.

Abdus Samad, officer-in-charge of Sonaimuri Police Station, claimed a patrol team of police encountered a group of robber around 12:45am. Sensing the police presence, the criminals opened fire,

forcing the law enforcers to retaliate.

After the robbers fled the scene, the law enforcers recovered bullet-wounded Subal from the spot, he added.

He was then rushed to Noakhali General Hospital where doctors declared him dead, he further said.

According to the OC, Subal was the leader of a notorious robber gang and had 11 cases against him.

Police also claimed to have recovered arms and ammunitions from the spot.
