The Junior Climate Champion 2014 is a school based environment related competition for students ranging from classes VI to X, to ensure a climate conscious future generation of Bangladeshis who will actively participate in learning, awareness building, prevention and mitigation efforts regarding climate challenges.

Hosted by HSBC and The Daily Star, Junior Climate Champion first took place in the year 2013 in three of the major cities in Bangladesh. The competition was divided in two parts -- divisional and the national rounds. Hundreds of candidates registered for the divisional round that took place in Dhaka, Sylhet and Chittagong.
Last year the competition areas included poster design/painting, quiz and extempore speech on climate related issues. At the end of the competitive contest the frontrunners were entertained with horse cart rides and cultural programs.

This year, a new field has been incorporated alongside painting, extempore speech and quiz to test the creativity and knowledge of the students. The main motive of the competition is to enkindle concern for environment and climate change among young minds. Hence the new addition called the 'Environment-related project' for the talented school-goers.

The registration period has almost come to an end with road shows and activation programs being held across 70 schools in Dhaka, 50 and 40 in Chittagong and Sylhet respectively. This year, Junior Climate Champion has received massive response, with more than 3500 candidates from Dhaka, 2500 from Chittagong and 1500 from Sylhet.

The divisional rounds consist of daylong programs, beginning with the main competition, interactive sessions and cultural programs. The divisional round for Chittagong will be held at the Chittagong Collegiate School on September 12. The divisional round for Sylhet will be held at the Scholar's Home on September 19 and the one for Dhaka will be held at Dhaka Residential Model College on September 26.
