Killer animals

S. A. Mansoor, Dhaka

An interesting list of eighteen killer animals was published in a local English daily on 26th February. It was quite surprising. The tiny mosquitoes, which we consider harmless, cause the highest number of human deaths. These tiny creatures manage to kill around a million people annually. Dogs and deer are in the middle of the list. The leopard, considered to be the most dangerous animal, comes last in the list! Bees and jellyfish kill far more people than tigers and lions. Snakes and tsetse flies kill over half a million people annually; most of them in Africa. By and large, it was an interesting piece of general information.
