Using a highlighter

A highlighter is a product that can completely change your look. If applied correctly, it gives you that amazing glow where people cannot really place what is different but nevertheless just say that you look amazing.

When you are choosing a highlighter, keep your skin tone in mind. If you have very sallow skin, pink toned highlighters are going to stick out, but if you have very pale skin, pink tones are perfect.

When applying highlighter, the goal is to get a reflective dewy appearance that makes you look like you just moisturised your skin. You do not want to be shiny or glittery, so try some on the back of your hand when you are at the store and blend well. If the product gives your skin a slight sheen, you have got it right; if you look covered in glitter or sickly, try again.

When you are looking for a product, no matter your skin's undertones, look for one that has a number of different pearl shades like the 'Twinkling Star' highlighter.

Do not try to use highlighter for coverage, especially for areas of pigmentation or redness. The shimmering tones will only serve to draw attention to the area. You should always apply highlighter after your foundation or tinted moisturiser, but before your concealer. You should always match the texture of your highlighter to your base.

If you want to use a powder highlighter, put a thin layer of translucent powder on over your foundation. You want your highlighter to really blend with your foundation. If you blend your makeup into one thin layer, it will look like your skin is naturally glowing and luminescent.
