Make the facility complete and user-friendly
It's good news that Dhaka North City Corporation is setting up an escalator at Banani footbridge which will connect Sainik Club with Banani Road-11. According to The Daily Star report, it will only elevate pedestrians onto the bridge and pedestrians will have to get down by taking the manual staircase which is a big problem. Another downside is, people from the north side will not be able to use the facility. Why did the city corporation plan to set up an incomplete facility? They should set up escalators on both sides of the bridge so that people can use it from both ends. And there must be escalators to get down from the footbridge. That way physically challenged and elderly people will be benefitted.
Anyway, this is a good initiative. More escalator facilities are needed at different points in Dhaka. Pedestrians who do not like to use footbridge at all and cross roads in a hasty manner ignoring the speedy vehicles may then be interested to use footbridge as escalators seem attractive to our people.
