Sylhet Grenade Attack Case
Charge framing now on August 30
District and Sessions Judge of Sylhet yesterday deferred charge framing in the case involving the incident of grenade attack on AL men at Gulshan Centre on August 7, 2004.
The judge refixed August 30 for the charge framing as the accused could not be produced in court. On July 21 last, the date was deferred till yesterday.
Sylhet city AL publicity secretary Mohammad Ibrahim Ali was killed while 50 others sustained injuries in the grenade attack minutes after a meeting of the city AL.
Police and witnesses said, it was aimed at killing the Sylhet City Corporation mayor Badar Uddin Kamran.
The then CID inspector Md Zobayer Ahmed filed separate charge sheets on September 20,2008 against six people. They are Huji chief Mufti Abdul Hannan, his brother Mufti Muhibullah alias Muhibur Rahman Ovi, Mufti Main Uddin Sheikh alias Abu Zandal, Sharif Shahedul Alam Bipul, Delwar Hossain Ripon and Humayun Kabir Himu. One of the cases was filed under Special Powers Act while the other for killing of AL man.
Among the accused, Himu is absconding since the incident, the Investigation officer said. Police could not produce the accused yesterday as they were in the capital in connection with other cases, court sources said.
