House hosting wedding party attacked, eight injured
Attackers allegedly belonging to ruling Awami League injured eight people including five woman and looted valuables worth Tk 2 lakh from a house hosting a wedding party at Shaheed Shahjahan Colony in Lalmonirhat town on Friday night.
Village doctor Mizu Ahmed, also a BNP activist, had invited Lalmonirhat district BNP convener former deputy minister Asadul Habib Dulu to his daughter's marriage ceremony at his Shaheed Shahjahan Colony house.
Dulu, however, did not attend the function as he was busy in a party meeting.
Hearing that BNP leader Dulu was invited to the function, a gang of ruling party men led by Jubo League leader Sohag and Jems attacked the venue at 10:00pm, Mizu said.
“The attackers assaulted me, my family members and invited guests. They vandalised my house and took away valuables including gold ornaments worth Tk 2 lakh. The injured took treatment at a local clinic at they did not get admission to Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital in the face of threat by the attackers,” Mizu said.
Mizu Ahmed, 42, his father Abul Kashem, 70, mother Shamsunnahar Begum, 62, sisters Moyna Begum, 30, and Lutfa Begum, 24, wife Jesin Ara, 35, daughter Shamima, 20, and relative Mir Kshem were injured in the attack, he said.
“The victim family submitted a written complaint over the matter on Friday night but they told police not to record it as a case yesterday morning,” said Lalmonirhat Sadar Police Station OC Foyezur Rahaman.
“If we file a case, we may have to face manifold problems," said Mizu's father Abul Kashem.
Additional Superintendent of Police Hamidul Alam, however, said police will take action against the attackers after inquiry.
