Withdrawal of troops from CHT

The government has taken the decision to withdraw a few army camps from the CHT in conformity with the peace accord that was signed on 2 December 1997. We hail this initiative. The peace accord is a historic achievement by the Awami League regime which could successfully pacify the volatility in the region that had been continuing since 1960. Though then AL government signed the peace accord but it did not implement it properly due to dilly dallying or time constraint. A mainstream political party sees the peace treaty as a threat to our sovereignty. They want to gain political mileage. The only thing which is worrisome for the government is that a miscreant group is still active. So, the government is doing it phase by phase. At the same time law and order has to be maintained in that region.
