11 people rescued from traffickers

Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) rescued 11 people including six children and two women from bordering village Shaljhor under Bhurungamari upazila of the district early yesterday. Police said traffickers Abdul Awal, Abdul Zalil and Jakir Hossen of of village Shaljhor gathered the 11 people in the border area, offering adult ones of the group, 'permanent job' in India. As the traffickers brought them to the 'no-man's land' near a border pillar at the village at about 3:00am, on-duty BDR men of Shaljhor border outpost saw and rescued the 11 people from the spot. Sensing the presence of BDR, the traffickers managed to escape. The rescued -- Amjad Hossen, 45, Azizul Haque, 32, Rashedul Haque, 25, Mojia Begum, 40, Parvin Begum, 35, Maidul Islam, 17, Emdadul Haque, 12, Salma Begam, 12, Rezaul Karim, 8, Shabina, 5, and Sharmin Aktar, 2 -- are inhabitants of Shyampur village (near Gangar Hat) of Kashipur union under Fulbari upazila of the district. A few of them are relatives. BDR handed them over to police at about 5:00am.
