Course on Speech and Language Therapy offered at CRP

Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP) has been providing academic degree — B.Sc. in Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) programme since July 2004 with the affiliation of the University of Dhaka, says a press release. CRP is the first institute to run such programme by its academic institution named Bangladesh Health Professions Institute (BHPI). It is a 4 year long programme with 1 year compulsory internship at CRP and training institute for health professionals in Savar, Dhaka. Students of the first batch have already been graduated this year and started their service as interns. Speech and Language Therapy is a medical discipline for scientific and rehabilitative treatment of human communication disorders. Speech and Language Therapists specialise in the assessment, identification and intervention of speech, language, communication and swallowing disorders for patients of any age suffering from conditions like cerebral palsy, autism, Attention Deficit and Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD), congenital speech/language delay/disorder, Down's syndrome, hearing loss, learning disability, dysfluency or stuttering, stroke, Parkinson's disease, cancer of the mouth, tongue, head and neck, cleft lip and/or palate and people with voice problems etc.
