Seven brickfield owners fined in Tangail

A mobile court yesterday fined seven brickfield owners in Mirzapur upazila of Tangail for setting up brickfields on government lands without permission and using firewood for burning bricks. The court comprising Magistrate Rabiul Islam, Major Mohammad Nasir Uddin, commander of Crime Prevention Unit-3 of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab)-12, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Abdul Jalil, and Assistant Conservator of Forest Mohammad Golam Kabir raided the brickfields in Beltoil, Syedpur, Panchgaon and Gorai Khamarpara areas in the morning and fined the owners. It realised Tk 30,000 from Mohammad Ali, owner of Kalimuddin Brickfield at Syedpur, and Tk 30,000 from Mohammad Shah Alam, owner of Disha Asha Bricks at Gorai Khamarpara, for using firewood. Alamgir Hossain, owner of New HBB Bricks at Syedpur, was fined Tk 30,000 while Abdul Gani, owner of MBC Brickfield at Panchgaon, Tk 25,000 and Ashraful Alam Arzu, owner of AB Enterprise at Beltoil, Tk 30,000 for running their business without licences. The court realised Tk 30,000 from Mujibur Rahman Mollah, owner of Nasrin Bricks at Beltoil, and Tk 30,000 from Mokter Ali, owner of Haji Bricks at Beltoil, for setting up brickfields by grabbing government land. The mobile court also seized firewood from the brickfields during the daylong drive. The Daily Star recently ran a story on Mirzapur brickfields that were set up on government lands.
