Over 12 kg heroin seized in Comilla

BDR members recovered 12.01kilograms of heroin in three separate drives on Saturday and Sunday in the district town, Chouddagram and Burichang upazilas. BDR sources said acting on secret information, a BDR patrol team led by Havildar Abu Taher raided Rajganj area of the town on Sunday and recovered a bag containing 4.4kg heroin in abandoned condition. Another BDR team led by Havildar Auranga raided Krishna Nagar border area in Chouddagram upazila on Saturday evening and recovered a bag containing 4kg heroin and in another raid in Haribhanga border of Burichang upazila on the same day the border guards seized 3.07 kg heroin in abandoned condition. None was arrested in connection with recovery of the heroin. Another report from Bogra adds: Police arrested an ex-army man along with 18 bottles of phensidyl syrup from his house at Bihigram in Shahjanpur upazila on Saturday. The arrestee was identified as Shariful Islam Sharif, son of Motahar Ali of the village. Police said on secret information they raided his house and arrested Sharif along with the contraband syrup. Locals said Sharif started drug peddling after he was terminated from the army.
