Job seekers in Gaibandha lay siege to CS office
Several hundred candidates, including the children of freedom fighters, yesterday laid siege to Gaibandha civil surgeon's office alleging irregularities in selecting candidates through written test for viva for 170 posts of health assistant.
The agitating candidates burnt the result sheets of written examination and ransacked the civil surgeon office where Civil Surgeon Rokibudowla and other members of the interview board were taking viva.
The civil surgeon and other members of the interview board, however. managed to flee. Police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. The civil surgeon later issued an order, cancelling viva.
A total of 16,360 candidates appeared in the written test for 170 posts of health assistant at different examination centers in the district town on January 1. The results were published on January 18 and 321 candidates were asked to appear before viva board on January 23 and 24.
Afzal Hossain Sarker, convener of sader upazila Muktijoddha command, said quota for freedom fighters' children was not maintained in the written test results. Though 96 candidates under freedom fighters' quota appeared in the written test, only 11 candidates were called for viva instead of 32, he alleged.
Freedom fighters brought out a procession in the town yesterday afternoon demanding fair recruitment of health assistant. Later, they held a meeting on the premise of Gaibandha civil surgeon office with Afzal Hossain in the chair.
