Grisly acid attacks on teenage girl, housewife
A teenage girl and a young housewife received burn injuries in two incidents of acid attack in Munshiganj and Satkhira on Tuesday.
A correspondent from Munshiganj reports: A jilted young man threw acid on his former lover in Balasur Natun village under Sreenagar upazila in Munshiganj early Tuesday.
Maqsuda Akter Swarna, 18, was rushed to local health clinic and later shifted to Dhaka for better treatment. Locals caught Belal Sheikh, 22, and handed him over to police.
Sreenagar police station OC Sakhawat Hossain said, Belal and Maqsuda had a love affair for the last two years. But Maqsuda's parents fixed her marriage with an expatriate and the wedding was set for February.
Belal was scheduled to fly to Dubai on Wednesday night. Enraged, he went to Maqsuda's house and talked all night with Maqsuda. But around morning Belal poured acid on the girl.
Hearing Maqsuda's screams, relatives rushed to the room and caught Belal. They handed him over to police
In another incident in Satkhira, a housewife who received serious burn injuries in acid attack at Chhoto Kupot village in Shyamnagar upazila on Tuesday morning, is fighting for life at Satkhira Sadar Hospital, reports our correspondent.
According to police, victim Rozina Khatun Moina, 25, is wife of Al Amin Dablu of village Chhoto Kupot.
Quoting locals police said, Rozina, daughter of Samsur Rahman Sardar of Pania village in Kaliganj upazila was married to Al Amin Dablu, son of Faruk Ahmed of Chhoto Kupot four years ago. At the time of marriage, Al Amin took dowry amounting to Tk 50,000. But recently he demanded more money from Rozina's poor father. Later he divorced her and sent the divorce letter to Rozina.
As Rozina did not receive the divorce letter, Al Amin and others threw acid on her on Tuesday when she came out to respond to call of nature at about 4:30 am. Rozina received burn injuries in her face, hands and chest.
Locals admitted her to Shyamnagar Upazila Health Complex and later she was shifted to Satkhira Sadar Hospital.
The victim's father Samsur Rahman Sardar filed a case with Shyamnagar police station accusing four people.
