Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) is very important for economic development of a country. It denotes the features of trade and investment in the globalised world. It denotes the connectivity and trade relation in the global arena. In the recent past, the trend of FDI was upward. The volume of FDI is comparatively low and not satisfactory. It is unknown why it is going down. It is said that corruption, weak governance and poor law and order, gas and power crisis are mainly obstructing the flow of FDI. These problems existed in the past also. Environment is very important for any kind of investment. No environment is completely favourable for investment. The environment is conducive for FDI in Bangladesh. Because there is political stability, cheap and good human resources, good climate for investment, cooperation of government etc. which can influence foreign investors to invest. Besides, the government is generous to appreciate the investors for any kind of investment which relates to development. In this regards, the business community plays an important role in increasing FDI. Our businessmen can take the initiative for raising FDI through maintaining good liaison with foreign investors. Our foreign diplomatic missions are staffed with professional diplomats who can contribute greatly in this matter. It is time for finding out alternative investment sectors that are not only gas and power oriented. It is not time for only watching and waiting.
