8 fishermen freed from Indian jail back home
Indian Border Security Force (BSF) yesterday handed over eight Bangladeshi fishermen to the border guards (BGB) through Benapole check post on completion of their jail terms in India.
Check post immigration police said, the hapless fishermen in a trawler left Cox's Bazar in October last year for fishing in the Bay of Bengal.
As the engine of their trawler went out of order in the deep sea the trawler carrying them entered Indian territory.
The members of Indian coast guard arrested them and handed them over to police.
As per a court order the Indian authorities kept them in Alipur jail. Owner of the trawler Abdul Kader of Mathbaria in Perojpur district tater appealed to the home ministry to bring back the detained fishermen from India.
After due procedure Indian police yesterday afternoon handed over the eight Bangladeshi fishermen to Border Guard of Bangladesh (BGB) with the help of BSF at the border.
The fishermen who returned home after more then four months in jail are Harun Hawlader, son of late Sekendar Ali, Imadul Mollah, son of Asmat Ali and Kamrul Shah, son of Kanchan Ali of Jankhali village in Mathbaria PS of Perojpur district; Selim, son of Safiuddin of Chhoto Macchura village, Nurul Haq, son of Nazimuddin and Shahjamal Hawlader, son of Shahjahan Hawlader of Tushkhali village in the same PS under the same district; Ismail Hossain, son of Mohazzel Hossain of Char Afzal village and Solaiman, son of Shahadat Hossain of the same village in Ramgati PS under Laxmipur district.
Later police handed the aforesaid eight to the trawler owner.
