Police set up billboards not for commercial purpose
DMP tells HC
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner AKM Shahidul Hoque informed the High Court (HC) yesterday that the police have not set up any billboard in the capital for commercial purpose.
The police set up some billboards containing awareness messages about traffic rules to raise awareness among the people, he said in a report submitted to the court through the attorney general's office.
Meanwhile, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shahbagh Police Station Rezaul Karim appeared before the High Court (HC) yesterday and made unconditional apology for not cooperating with the Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) in dismantling unauthorised billboards last month.
He told the court through his lawyer that a group of students had created obstacles to demolition of unauthorised billboards by DCC on March 18 and the police tackled the situation.
The HC bench of Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik and Justice Md Delwar Hossain exempted the OC of charges.
