Biddyut confesses to crime

Shahidul Islam alias Biddyut, who was shown arrested in sensational goldsmith Prem Krishna Roy killing case, confessed to his involvement in the slaying before a magistrate yesterday. Inspector Mohammad Sadik Mujibur Rahman, the investigation officer of the case, told The Daily Star that Biddyut made his confessional statement before Magistrate Zulfikar Hayet's Court under section 164. Inspector Sadik said in the confessional statement Biddyut admitted that Dakat Shahid from India asked Nantu to issue a threat on Prem Krishna and his brother Amal Krishna Roy, demanding Tk 10 lakh as toll. As Nantu failed to realise the amount, Dakat Shaid from India asked Biddyut to gun down Prem Krishna with the help of Kawsar, another accomplice of Dakat Shahid, said the inspector. Biddyut stated that he rang Kawsar asking him to come on the spot when Prem Krishna was coming back home from a school in the morning on March 4, the inspector said adding, when Prem Krishna reached near the Victoria Park in Old Dhaka, Kawsar gunned him down. Following the incident, a case was filed with Sutrapur Police Station and then shifted to the Detective Branch of police.
