The diarrhoea situation in the city remains unchanged, and the experts also do not see quick respite from the menace as safe drinking water is yet to be supplied to all people. A total of 964 patients sought treatment at the International Centre for Diarrheoal Disease Research, Bangladesh (ICDDR,B) on Tuesday. The number was 768 until 7:00pm yesterday. Patients are mostly coming from city's Mirpur, Mohammadpur, Khilgaon, Bashabo, Demra, Narayanganj, Rampura and Mohakhali areas. Most of them belong to lower income group. Though people are complaining that the water supplied by the Wasa in their locality is stinky and dirty, 80 percent of the patients admitted to the hospital said that they don't drink boiled water. "The water crisis in our locality is so severe that we find it difficult to manage a drum of water. It is more difficult to boil water due to gas crisis," said Ramjan who came from Khilgaon area. The doctors said people must drink boiled water as the water supplied by Wasa is found contaminated in many places. They also suggested avoiding stale and street foods.
