Patuakhali Awami League formed a four-member committee to investigate the allegations against local ruling party lawmaker Golam Maula Rony. The district unit of AL formed the committee in its extended meeting at Patuakhali Circuit House auditorium on Thursday night after Galachipa upazila AL president and secretary jointly submitted a written complaint against the lawmaker. The committee was headed by Advocate Shahjahan Mia, state minister for religious affairs and president of Patuakhali AL. He chaired the extended meeting where six AL central leaders were also present. In the written complaint, Galachipa AL president Harun-or-Rashid and secretary Golam Mostafa Tito alleged that Golam Maula Rony, a lawmaker from Patuakhali-3 (Galachipa and Dashmina) is harassing party men by filling false cases. He took bribes from various development projects through his brother-in-law who was a BNP leader during the previous BNP-led 4-party alliance government. He also did not properly observe the National Mourning Day on August 15. When contacted, Rony said, "Anybody can submit allegations against me. The probe body formed by the district AL will find out whether the allegations are true or not."
