HC hearing on Khaleda's petition today

Staff Correspondent
The High Court (HC) is scheduled to hold today hearing on the writ petition filed by BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia challenging a government notice that asked her to vacate the cantonment house. Attorney General Mahbubey Alam told The Daily Star that the HC bench of Justice Md Imman Ali and Justice Obaidul Hasan is set to hear the petition of Khaleda today. He said his office is ready to place arguments before the court against the petition. Earlier on March 18 this year, an HC bench of Justices Syed Mahmud Hossain and ATM Fazle Kabir sent the petition to Chief Justice Mohammad Fazlul Karim for a decision as Khaleda expressed "no-confidence" in that bench. The CJ then referred the petition to the bench of justices Md Imman Ali and Obaidul Hasan for hearing. The HC on May 27 last year stayed the eviction notice for three months asking Khaleda to hand over the house to the military estate officer by June 30 of the same year. It also issued a rule upon the government to explain as why the notice should not be declared illegal.
