4 Buet boys hurt in clash with rly workers
Workers of a railway water supply contractor stabbed and critically injured four Bangladesh University of Science and Technology (Buet) students at Joydevpur Railway Station on Wednesday night over a trifling matter.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Nazrul Islam of Kamalapur GRP said some Buet students exchanged heated words with the workers, who were refilling a water tank, as they got wet with the dribbles.
Following the incident, the workers swooped on a team of 27 Buet students, leaving four of them critically injured, he added.
Critically injured students Misu Biswas and Aurangajeb were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and Golam Kibria to Combined Military Hospital while Abdullah Al-Mamun took primary treatment at DMCH.
The team of Naval Achievements and Marine Engineering faculty was going to Khulna Shipyard for an academic training by Khulna-bound train Chittra from Kamalapur Railway Station.
Railway police said the workers were locked into an altercation with the students while they asked the workers to stop supplying water into the tank, as they were getting wet with the water pouring on them.
The SI said workers of railway water supply contractor Anwar Islam Babu attacked the students with sharp weapons while the train was departing from the station, adding that there was a leak in the supply pipe.
Railway police arrested three attackers -- Atik, Sohel and Ibrahim -- on the spot.
Injured student Mamun filed a case in this connection.
