Thakurgaon mass killing day today
Different socio-political organisations and valiant freedom fighters will observe the mass killing day in Thakurgaon today.
On this day in 1971, thousands of people of Jagannathpur, Gorea, Shukanpokhori and Balia union under Sadar upazila left their homes for India to save their lives from the Pakistani army and their local collaborators -- Razakars.
The innocent people of those areas came to Jhathibhanga village under Sadar upazila to go to India together. Seeing the scene, members of Razakars and Al Badr informed the Pakistani troops of the news.
The Pakistani hyenas rushed to the spot and placed the innocent people in several rows and killed about 3,500 people, including women and children.
Later, the killers buried them at a mass grave at Jhathibhanga under Sadar upazila.
On the same day, Razakars and Al Badrs also killed about 100 people of Pirganj municipal area, Kosharaniganj, Khongaon and Sindhurai unions of Pirganj upazila while they were going to India.
Even on the same night, the collaborators took Principal Golam Mostafa of Pirgonj College and Dr Sujat Ali, President of Pirganj Upazila Awami League out of their homes and killed them near Pirganj Rice Mill.
After few days their bodies was found in the area.
The Pakistani army and their local collaborators killed about 1,000 fleeing people after brutal tortures at Khuniadighi under Ranishankoil upazila. Most of the victims were women and children.
During the liberation war, about 12,000 innocent people were killed and buried at Khuniadighi, a water body.
