ADB South Asia dept DG due today

Sultan Hafeez Rahman, director general (DG) of South Asia Department of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), arrives in the city on a five-day official visit today. During his visit, he will take part in ADB's Country Programming Mission for Bangladesh focusing on the forward-looking assistance covering 2011-2013. He will also hold discussions with senior government official where ADB's priority sectors, including power and energy, transport, education, and the financial sectors will be focused. He will also exchange views with the private sector representatives, development partners and other stakeholders on a range of development issues. ADB's assistance envelope for Bangladesh comprises around 1.1 billion per year during 2011-2013. ADB's South Asia region comprises Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka. ADB, based in Manila, is dedicated to reducing poverty in the Asia and the pacific region through inclusive economic growth, environmentally sustainable growth and regional integration.
